Bread Rising

We bring nothing to God and He gives us everything.
Gary Thomas

A little yeast mixed in
Warm water and flour
Set by the fireside to warm
Grows loaves of bread that bake
Buttery and fine
In the hot oven.
Just a little yeast makes something good.
But likewise a little sin hidden away inside me
Kneaded by self doubt and a victim mentality
Grows something not good;
Grows grief, grows trouble.
A little sin kept warm and held inside
Grows pain and sorrow and more sin.
It needs a hot oven to stop that yeast,
To kill it and make my life a safe
Healthy place to live again
Let your truth, Lord Jesus, be the heat
That cures what ails me.
