Morning in the Country

A Grateful List

The quiet of the morning hours gently fills with sound and the world wakes at last.

Frost sparkling on the grass like a thin white coverlet, morning sunshine filling every space with light, eastern bluebird perched on a branch outside my bedroom window, hot coffee steaming in my cup, cinnamon roll warm and sweet on a white plate,

Five black crows landing in the pecan tree beside the front gate, the story of Saul being changed by God, a white amaryllis blooming, books stacked along the livingroom shelves, wind chimes dancing and ringing softly in the morning breeze,

Frost outlining the rose bush leaves, the peaceful quiet of the countryside like earmuffs on a cold day, light glancing off the surface of the farm pond, newborn calves playing in the pasture, cardinals decorating the redbud tree, cat gliding like a liquid across the lawn,

Fire crackling in the woodstove, a pair of blue jays working in the grass, the mailbox waiting patiently beside the driveway.

What do you experience in the morning?

What are you grateful for?
