Trained Falcon

“The noble bird on the wing owns the sky.”

C e Hollis

At the Rendezvous Ron and I visited with a falconer and his bird. The falcon was black and white speckled and trained to hunt for rabbits and other food animals. What a help one such bird would have been to a family back in the day.

The bird was about one and a half foot tall and bright white with black speckled wings and an owl like face. He looked bright and well aware of his surroundings. The falconer had a leather wrist band for the bird to perch on and had him trained by voice commands. There seemed to be a bond of trust between the two.

While we visited, the bird keep a close watch on us and everything around him. I imagined him with a snake in his talons —then with a fish and then a rabbit all catches for his master.

“ And God created every winged bird according to its kind; and God saw that it was good.”

Genesis1:21
