A Labor Day Parade

“America is a great land with opportunity for all who will claim it.”

The streets were cordoned off by police cars with flashing lights. But there were no protests, no riots, no destruction or ugly episodes. There was laughter and cheer in the air as people choose places along the streets of a small Oklahoma town to sit with their children and watch a parade go by.

If you love marching bands, floats, and clowns throwing candy to children, balloons, antique cars, firetrucks, and old men in red hats driving tiny cars recklessly, and horses on parade you will love a small town parade.

We saw election posters for local offices, for senators and congressmen who long to join the fray in Washington D.C. and we saw posters for Biden and posters for Trump.

That’s my girl on the horse, youngest of our seven children. She is a deputy.

To celebrate our laborers is something truly American. In many places I beleive the laborers are put down as if they were lower ranking citizens. One of the things that makes America great is the value shown the worker, the laborer, the blue collar man.

And so a parade is held with floats and marching bands and clowns and candy, with flags fluttering in the wind and freedom in the hearts of man.

America is still the place where a man can make it through hard work and determination. Where education is available to all and where everyone counts.

We had a nice cool morning for the parade and enjoyed ice cream afterward. It was good to be out and see cheering onlookers and hear the joy and laughter ring. It was good to see America celebrating itself. America is a great place and when we fight for equality and freedom for all, our country will grow greater still!

“A man must be free inside himself and free in his home before he can enjoy freedom in society.”
