The Promise of Peonies

“We are a people in need of promise, in need of hope, in need of miracles. We are a people hungry for God, to see His hand, to hear His voice, to know Him.”

c e hollis

There is nothing that makes us feel more alive than finding a flower blooming, hearing the cry of a baby newly born, seeing an imprisoned man set free, or a sick man healed of his sin and disease.

The peonies give us a promise with the red stems that sprout while it is still cold. The leaves fill out fast and wave in the first spring warm breezes. The buds of red swell and we watch and wait. Suddenly the promise comes true and the buds burst with pink and crimson petals.

The iris sprouts and sends up budding stems. The crocus blooms even in snow and ice. The hyacinths smell of the promise of warm days and summer fun.

The tree branches break bud and their leaves begin to grow promising days hot enough to need shade. God gives us these promises and every spring we see them and note them and every year we are again surprised when it happens.

“Every April God rewrites the book of Genesis.” said Austin O’Malley

Everything is rebirthed. Everything recreated and everything made fresh and new. And therein we have hope that God will one day make all things new, including our aging bodies and brains, our injured spirits, our lonely souls. He will come and renew all. That is a promise worth waiting for.

And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”

Revelation 21:5
