A New Bull for the Farm

“God wanted his first man to be a farmer and take care of animals he’d made.”

Our new bull arrived today from Anadarko, OK. Number 2570 is his brand. He is a black angus and will be a good addition to our small herd of cows. He’s healthy and strong and will grow to nearly twice his size in the next year.

The bull was delivered by his owners early this morning. They were a friendly couple with their teenaged daughter. They were interested in our pecan orchard until we told them that the trees have to be planted, then at three years grafted. It is fifteen years before they start bearing. You have to wait and prune and fertilize those trees for years before they turn into pecan pies!

Our beef is grass fed and grass finished from black angus cows. Very fine meat. The cows eat lots of hay and fresh grass. In winter they are treated to alfalfa hay at a premium. They love it.

Here’s the man and grandpa to all our 26 grandchildren. He loves his pecan trees but also loves working with his cows. He was pretty excited to welcome our bull to the farm. (Holliswood Farms)

The new bull seemed quite happy with all the fresh grass from our past week of rain. Now he is out in the pasture with the cows and steers. We are looking for a Bible name for him. We have already named one bull Judah and another Solomon. Give us your idea. What shall we name this one?

The fields are full of wildflowers and I can’t miss taking some pictures of them while I am out.

That’s one contented bull. He fussed a bit and overturned the empty hay bin but it was all for show––just a bit of bull.

“Its not the same to talk of bulls as to be in the bullring.” Spanish Proverb

Indeed, the land will yield its produce. Righteousness will go before Him and will make His footsteps into a way!

Psalm 85:13 NASB
