A New Day

When change comes a new path into the future opens for us.

I watched the leaf float by on the river’s brown surface and though it was still yellow and bright from its summer’s visit on a tree I knew it would drift until it caught somewhere and then slowly sink. I watched it go by silent and solitary soon to be forgotten and soon to be past.

This year––2020––was hard for everyone. A difficult year with fear and sickness, deaths and scares, a terrible election with plenty of division, hurts and disappointments, shortages, traumas, loneliness, job losses for many. A plethora of sunken hopes and fallen dreams. Yet life goes on and the new year arrives. This coming year may be a year of blessings and joy.

Roses will bud in the springtime. Waiting for the sunshine to visit longer each day, for the planet to warm, for the rains to fall. Crocuses will poke their way through snow if necessary to bloom in the cold. Tulips and daffodils will sprout and take off.

The trees will bud and the buds break on every branch. The leaves will come back uncurling themselves to warmer weather and better times. The baby bunnies will be born in their burrows. The calves and colts play in the field. Kittens and puppies, bear cubs and fawns make a showing while birds hatch eggs in their nests. New New New

The irises will begin to push up stems, and the scent of hyacinths fill the air. Tulips will dance in the spring breezes. Tomorrow will be better. Tomorrow is something to look forward to.

The year has passed by now ––2020–– It’s gone. The new year brings in its arms hope and new opportunities, new goals, dreams, visions and plans. Look to the trees all bare and void of their leaves. The year is past and new days shine ahead for us. The sun is still crossing each day her designated place in the sky. The beauty and music of life still can be heard. Heads up and let’s go on.

The stedfast love of the Lord never ceases;

His mercies never come to an end;

They are new every morning; New every morning,

Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord. Great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations3:22-23.
