“Summer comes and the babies of spring grow.”
c e hollis
What does a horse want but to run, to race the wind, and to hear his hooves drum. This little filly, Riah, was up and walking within minutes of her birth. Soon she was chasing shadows and wisps of wind. Soon she was beside her mama, Nip, learning to run.
Mama grazes the fresh spring grass. She is sleek and a beautiful red/ brown. She trains her foal for the pasture life. Stay away from the electric fence. Now you eat. Now go to the trough to drink, and now trot beside me. Life is fun!

Mama grazes some more, runs some laps, then lays down and rolls in the grass to ease her itchy back. Baby Riah loves to run and trot and she lies in the grass and soaks in the warm sunshine. She loves to run and kick up her heels.

A human baby takes nine to twelve months to learn to toddle. She takes more time to gain balance and control enough to run. Isn’t it amazing how quick animals can learn to mogate?
Now the mare is grazing – chomping off the fresh grass and eating. Riah tries some but doesn’t care for the taste. She still wants milk and Mama appears to have an unending supply.

I am like that mama teaching my foals to stand and to walk and run, teaching them how to live.
“You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.”
Psalm 145:10
Love these beautiful photos and the story of Riah!
