Spring Days

“I love Your spring wind, Lord….Its bright prancing. It makes me want to dance too, to roll a hoop, throw confetti, gather armloads of flowers.”

Marjorie Holmes
A Painted Bunting

I love the birds in spring. Buntings, cardinals, titmice, Carolina chickadees, Jays, meadowlarks, nuthatches, and robins are beautiful to see. Their chatter, whistles, and calls fill the air as we venture back outdoors into the spring air.

The wind blows soft from the south and warm air seems to pull the flowers from the earth. A couple of warm/cool weeks and the trees turn pale green with buds and suddenly green is everywhere—dressing the bare branches of the trees and covering the brown grass.

Inside and out flowers start their blooming. They eat up the sunshine and respond to the extra hours of light. Daffodils seem to appear from the wet ground as fast as the grass sprouts. Iris send up their spikes.

Tulips are a favorite early spring flower. I love the color so bright and spectacular in the still hazy, fleeting spring days. They are promises of summer to come with even more magnificent flowers.

In the evening I sit and listen to the chorus of the tree frogs from the creek bed and the call of the owl. Watch a heron stalk through rain puddles.

When the days are rainy and the cold still calls for a jacket or sweater—be glad for the passing of long cold winter and recall the terrific heat of summer ahead. Enjoy the sights and sounds of spring and drink in the feel of them. Thank God for spring days.

“Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.”

Job 37:14
