Spring Fog and Fire on the Farm

“ Fog comes and wraps the trees with a baby’s soft white blanket. God swaddles the earth in hope.”

Fog rises from the creek bed. It lifts off the farm ponds and creeps across the terra firma. It blankets the garden plot, hides fences, and camouflages the line of farm equipment parked along the north fences.

Cows walk in it and seem suddenly to materialize from the mist. A soft gray rabbit hops from the softness and disappears again. Trees stand out like skeletons against the white or like scrimshaw etched in pearly shell.

The world is fresh and clean—being renewed. The spring is warming the ground and everywhere new life is emerging. Tree frogs and leaf hoppers love the moisture and fill the days with music.

Lately, we had a house fire on the farm. It was frightening thinking we might lose our home and could have lost our lives had it happened during the night. Restoration to our den, attic, and walls where the fire damage occurred with the woodstove chimney has begun.

When bad and frightening things happen, it’s like we are seeing life through a fog. It causes unease and some confusion, but that fog will lift and we will get all the repairs completed.

God will get us through the fire aftermath. He will get us through as the virus scare going on just now, as well as the surgery I had for appendicitis since the fire, and the stock market upheaval. He will bring us through all the problems we face if we put our trust in Him. We can rest and find hope in the one who has proven himself to be faithful.

The sun will come out, daffodils, tulips, and roses will bloom again and the fog will evaporate. With this hope, peace will preside in our hearts and our minds.

As the sun comes up, miraculously the fog lifts off the top of the hill and evaporates into the air.

“The coastlands have seen and are afraid; The ends of the earth tremble; Each one helps his neighbor And says to his brother, “Be strong!”

Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold your with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41: 5, 6, and 20 NASB
